The Shepherds Trail

Starting on the wild southern coast of the Island at Shepherds Chine, this trail sets out across the coastal plain towards the unmistakable landmark of the television transmitter tower on Chillerton Down. Winding through the tiny lanes and farm tracks the trail slowly ambles northwards between the high downs to the west and the Wilderness, the Medina River valley, to the east. The trail slowly climbs to Newbarn Down then passes the pretty village of Gatcombe before following the ridge line down to Carisbrooke and its famous Castle.
