Newbarn Farm Self Catering Cottages - Isle of Wight

Diane and Des Harvey welcome you to Newbarn Country Cottages for high quality self catering accommodation on the Isle of Wight at an affordable price. Formally a mainly dairy farm Newbarn is now primarily arable extending to some 300 acres. With the decline in the returns from dairying and the departure of the dairy herd a number of buildings became redundant. Over the winter of 1993/1994 the Stable the first conversion into self catering accommodation was completed. Following the popularity of this cottage the Parlour and Dairy were converted ready for the 2000 season.

Newbarn Farm Self Catering Cottages - Isle of WightNewbarn lies in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty  to the south of the small hamlet of Gatcombe in a secluded valley below the wooded slopes of the chalk downs which form the backbone of the island. Although consisting of only a handful of cottages, Gatcombe once had its own school and watermill (now derelict) and still has a fine 13 th century church, originally the private chapel of the Lord of the manor Gatcombe. Sheltered by the woods of Gatcombe Park the church has benefited from many alterations over the centuries, so little of the original remains apart from the front and some intriguing legends.

From this ideal location all parts of the island are easily reached by car. Whether you love sandy beaches, spectacular scenery or the peace of a nature reserve, you can be there within 30 minutes. For those who enjoy walking Carisbrooke Castle is less than 3 miles to the north along the Shepherds Trail and many other walks can be started here, some enjoying spectacular views over the island and south coast of Dorset and Hampshire.

Newbarn Farm Self Catering Cottages - Isle of WightWhile the island is a walkers paradise with an   extensive, well marked network it is also a mecca for cyclists and mountain bikers. Many other Activities are catered for locally including horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, golf and even ghost walks. More extreme sports such as para-gliding and water sports are also available. Although we enjoy a peaceful and tranquil location the islands capital town of Newport is only 3 miles away with various supermarkets and chain stores.

The neighbouring village of Rookley is only 2.5 miles and has a post office and small supermarket which is open until late for those forgotten items. For those who enjoy eating out there are a number of excellent pubs in the surrounding villages the nearest being about 2.5 miles away and many more good restaurants and public houses within easy reach.

All three cottages are ground floor only with only a few steps, and with parking adjacent to each cottage are suitable for the elderly.

Children of all ages are welcome.

In the interests of hygiene and asthma sufferers, we do not allow pets in any of the cottages. We also have a no smoking policy within the cottages. To allow time for cleaning to the high standard we endeavour to maintain, we ask guests to vacate the cottage by 10.00am on day of departure, and not to arrive before 3.30 pm

We consistently achieve the Enjoy England 4 star rating for all three cottages and offer the discerning visitor old fashioned hospitality in peaceful surroundings. We hope that should you decide to take your holiday with us, you too will love the cottage and the surrounding area.

We look forward to welcoming you to Newbarn Country Cottages
