Known in medieval times as "The King's Forest", Parkhurst is one of the oldest recorded forests in the country. It was here that oak trees grew tall and provided timber for wooden warships. Our cycle route combines an easy section of the Cowes to Newport cycleway and a circular tour of the forest.

Reproduced by kind permission of Ian Williams. "Cycling Wight" and "Cycling Wight 2" include detailed descriptions of this and many other routes along with a route map, places of interest near the route, descriptions of wildlife, places of special historic interest, pubs, tea shops and inns along the way.
