NEWS

The AGM will be held on Friday 16th march. The General Committee is proposing to launch a GOLDEN JUBILEE DEVELOPMENT FUND with a view to upgrading facilities fo the Club's fiftieth birthday in 2002. This will be put to the members at the AGM.
The two main areas requiring upgrade are :Clubhouse. In 1998 our application to Lottery Commission for funding towards a new clubhouse was turned down, but in such a way  that we were encouraged to re-apply for a scaled down version. The general committee is currently assessing the options with a view to re- submitting an application later this year.

Apron. The wooden apron needs to be refurbished along withsome of the supporting structure. Rather than just replace the old with the new we are looking to upgrade this facility considerably, particularly to make it more usable for wheel chairs, by leveling and reducing the angle of the slipway. The 1998 Boxing Day Race ahd to be cancelled due to bad weather.
It is proposed to run it over the Easter weekend. (Contact hon. Secretary if interested.)

A full Summer programme wil be published shortly. DISABLED SAILING The CCYC is also the unofficial home of Disabled sailing in Cowes.Since Andy Cassell returned home victorious from the 1996 paralympics in Atlanta an increasing number of disabled sailors have come to the Club to try out a Sonar , the preferred Paralympic keel boat. The Andy Cassell Foundation owns two Sonars which are available to promote Disabled sailing. (Contact Hon. Secretary for further

It was proposed from the floor that particular effort should be put into promoting the club as a family venue, possibly with monthly events including discos. We particularly need to boost the number of cadet members. This was essential to the long term future of the Club.

Incoming Commodore Chris Pegna advised the meeting that he intended to have an open forum for members in the clubhouse on the last Wednesday evening of every month. This would be an opportunity for members to air ideas directly to him rather than relying on filtering them through General Committee meetings or waiting until the AGM. This is your chance - don't miss it!! (you can of course e-mail him from this site).

The meeting ended with thanks expressed to retiring Commodore Mike Jackson for the time and effort he had put in over the last three years, particularly his enthusiasm in pushing the bid for lottery money.
